David Lloyd has built on his career in sport to become an entrepreneur and one of UK’s leading personal name brands.
David’s younger years saw him travel internationally as a young tennis player, often sleeping rough to get his way around the circuits. Success came pairing with his brother John Lloyd in the doubles tournaments.
David went on to become Britain’s Davis Cup team Captain for 6 years and has a lot to say robustly about British Tennis today.
His grit and determination together with entrepreneurship led to the success of David Lloyd Leisure. He was named as Entrepreneur of the Year in the 1994 PLC Awards – the City’s Oscars.
David Lloyd founded the sport and leisure clubs and sold out to Whitbread for £200 million in 1995. In 2007, the business sold again for £925 million pounds to Versailles Bidco, the private equity firm London & Regional Holdings and Bank of Scotland. It has more than 70 clubs throughout the UK and 10 sites across Europe.
David continues to build David Lloyd Resorts, his travel business and his brand in property and resorts ownership worldwide.
