Bernard Lo is a multiple award-winning veteran television news anchor and talk show host with three decades of experience. He was part of the startup team at CNBC Asia, where he played a key role in helping NBC expand into the Asia-Pacific market in the early 1990s, during the nascent days of cablesat TV.
Bernard's initial tenure at CNBC Asia began with field reporting, but he was quickly promoted to Anchor and Chief Stocks Editor. He co-hosted CNBC's flagship morning business pre-market programme Squawk Box and hosted his own variety talk show, Lo & Co.
Later, Bernard joined Bloomberg Television at a pivotal time when its broadcast operations were just beginning. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in transforming Bloomberg TV into a full-fledged business news network, which eventually rivalled — and even surpassed — CNBC's viewership in Asia. As the lead anchor, he also hosted his talk show Asia Confidential.
In 2010, Bernard returned to CNBC Asia, rejoining Squawk Box, hosting the live market programme The Call, and launching his new talk show Straight Talk with Bernie Lo. He has conducted interviews with top business, political, and entertainment leaders. Notable guests include Bill Gates, Larry Ellison, George Soros, Larry Summers, Isabella Rossellini, chairpersons and CEOs of major global banks, as well as heads of most Asian governments and countless other figures shaping the 21st century.
Bernard brings extensive experience as a speaker, event host, and conference moderator. Throughout his television career, he has participated in high-profile global events as an MC and panel moderator, including the World Economic Forum, Asian Financial Forum, and financial conferences for CLSA and Credit Suisse, engaging audiences ranging from hundreds to thousands.
In 2015, Bernie suffered a catastrophic spinal injury due to a failed surgery. Despite enduring severe pain and multiple operations, he continued working at CNBC until 2021. Following full spinal reconstruction in 2022 and a protracted recovery involving 10 gruelling surgeries, he was finally certified as fully recovered in 2024.
Bernard is available to host and moderate events, television programmes, radio shows, social media channels, and podcasts.
